Hav-a-Ball

The rest of the team

Kerry, Dave, and Chris -- the "good" bowlers.

For the first time ever, I’m in a bowling league (“Hav-A-Ball” — not a “serious” league). and I have to admit that it’s more fun than I thought it would be (as a non-bowler). Because I like to learn, and thought it’d be fun to do so, I’ve been switching hands between games, just for the fun of it, and to see what happens. Turns out that, although I’ve always been a right-handed bowler, I may be better with my left hand.

One night I tried “slow-bowling” and tried to get the best score with rolls that were under 7mph. Some time I’d like to try a competitive game where the pins knocked over were factored with the ball speed, to determine a different scoring metric, where the slower ball rolls beat faster ball rolls (for same number of pins).

Last night though, I actually tried my hardest to bowl “good” games — 167, 166, and 101 for the series. Next week I think I’ll try to beat those scores with my left hand.

and India, subbing.

and India, subbing.

Now for the downsides: We get a free pizza each week as part of the league deal, and it truly is the worst pizza I’ve ever had (more steamed than baked). And the beer on tap is also truly terrible (dirty lines?). And because it’s just outside of Madison, it’s a “tobacco-friendly” establishment. Our entire team typically leaves feeling a bit sick. Thanks Badger Bowl!
