Oil profits vs. U.S. population

Exxon/Mobil reported record profits of about $40 billion in 2006. Shell’s was over $25 billion. If they were state-owned companies and profits went to the U.S. government, it would add over $215 per person ($866 per household of 4) to the U.S. coffers.

It averages out to every one of the 300 million men, women, and children in the U.S. is paying more than 50 cents a day to Exxon/Mobil and Shell.

What would you do if your tax bill were $866 less each year?
